When I first started I had absolutly no idea what I was going to carry my kit's around in. The possibilities are endless and it left me stumped. I started looking at all of the pro beauty suppliers I could get access to and all of the cases that would fit everything in were so expensive and looked pretty flimsy from what I could tell, I also heard horror stories from much more experienced professionals that they had gone on jobs with these and at the top of a long flight of stairs the whole case evaporated sending hundreds of pounds worth of equipment flying down the stairs. The thought of it makes me want to cry. You invest a lot of research, time, effort and money on all these products and cases to keep them in and I don't know about you but I want to keep mine safe and secure from my door to car and clients door and back again.
I wasn't originally going to work from home so didn't have much in the way of storage for my products and of course the more courses I did the more products were needed and practice hours were spent in my house but for now things were needing to be kept clean and tidy away in some form of mobile case. Amazon was my next port of call but again pro cases were still expensive, it wasn't until I visited a cake maker friend of mine that I saw a tool box as a possibility. You think about it and it makes perfect sense, they are sturdy enough for a tradesman to keep his heavy tools and they come in all different sizes with wheels and handles to pull along. So I visited B and Q. My husband was of course in his element being a mechanic, tool boxes galore there were, I chose a 2 tiered one that has a deeper bottom box and little compartments, a lift out tray it's fab very useful and I get a lot of mobile use out of it, never has it let me down and best of all it was about £25. what a bargain. Well done B and Q top job.
I now work from home 50% of the time and do mobile 50% of the time and my tool box is still used for mobile use and to store my consumables in at home. I have a lot of storage so am not so worried about having a lot of cases hanging around as I used to be, mine tucks away nicely so it doesn't look like a builder uses my beauty room as well, I do have a pull along large briefcase also that came with my main skincare brand package which is great for the odd one or two small jobs. So if you feel like you are stuck as to what to get all of you mobile beauty kit into and you're on a budget or if you want some extra storage, give a tool box a go, it's been a god send.

Beauty business marketing.... Or is it!!!!!!
Hello fellow Beauties.
Recently I have been doing a lot research into marketing my business, I have been out there for a while now and with very little advertising I am recieving a fair amount of business. The trouble started when I noticed that everyone (bar a couple of exceptions) always wants 'a bargain' I think this is because in our area there are a few mobile therapists and they are all getting into pricing wars with each other. This is not me. I don't offer a cheap service therefore you will have to pay good money for what I offer. There lies additional problems when A, I dont "own" a salon and B, my self confidence needs work. I began thinking that there has to be a way to market my business so that I get regular FULL paying clients. This also means I have to learn to market myself, thats a scary thought to me well to anyone who shares the lack of self confidence. I know I'm good at what I do, my client care is second to none and that I offer something a bit differernt to mobile clientele, How do I convince potential clients of that.
Along came Hollie.
Now I don't know if there is a boom in the industry where by Beauty business marketing is "The thing" at the moment, Or if I found it because I was looking but there is information everywhere., especially regarding growing your business. Hollie Power wasn't the first one I had seen but her presence really struck me. Her honesty about struggling when she first got started, how she has grown her business and the fact that when I implemented small changes suggested into my business I saw a change straight away. This lady gave me such inspiration to change how I market myself because after all people are buying a piece of me when they buy thier treatments. Hollie offers membership into "The Beauty Project" and whilst this wasn't for me I wasnt going to let that stop me, She has shown me that I have knowlage that others don't, I dont mean other therapists I mean the people who use them, that is why they come to us, I need to shout it from the roof tops, and shout I shall.
I got inspired and have since been using the techniques in the videos and other forms of marketing I have come across and each day I see a change in myself and my business. I am scouring the internet to find out every marketing secret people will share with me and have some very exciting changes underway. I'm going for a big relaunch, it's time everyone knows how good I am at what I do. It's harder work than I thought but I love that I can do it myself breaking it down into manageable chunks makes it less over whelming. I am going to be using every free resource available to me and paying good money for the things that are important or that I don't have the skill for and I'm sure I will take you on the journey with me.
Step one for me was creating a logo. Now for those of you that have design skills you could do this yourself but I don't. I would prefe to use local business and wan't something that is mine that no one else can use. The wheels are already in motion for that and as soon as it is done it will make an appearance on my blog thats for certain.

My Actiderm journey so far
Hi
Today I thought I'd share with you my Actiderm journey. Whats Actiderm? I hear you cry. Well they are a cosmecuticals company that make fantastic skin and body care, diet aids and make up. Their motto is 'Using science to get the best out of nature' Thier products are 100% alergen and paraben free and with thier make up also being talc free and the added bonus of being cruelty free too.
I need to just give you a little disclaimer that I joined actiderm as an ambassador this month and for good reason too but this is not about me selling these products, its about why I came to join the Actiderm family and use them as part of my existing business.
It must be about 2 Years ago that I went to my first actiderm pamper evening. It's a kind of ann summers deal where you all go to a host's home and they demonstrate the products, you then choose to buy, and trust me most people buy as the results are undeniable. The consultant (as they were called then) demonstrated an inch loss wrap where the lady lost 8 inches in total from three points around her mid section, the wraps are not dehydrative so in order to loose the inches you need to drink at least 2 litres of water in the days running up to the wrap and the days folowing. I wont bore you with the science of it and quite frankly who cares IT WORKS !! There was also a demonstration where half a facial was performed on the host, the results were unbelievable, this lady looked as if one side of her face had been ironed. Needless to say I wanted a piece of this action, my skin complaint (and we all have one don't we) is melasma, dark spots, caused by hormones and thyroid medication. I am very self concious of them in the summer as no amount of covering conceals them the consultant suggested fresh start mask, a 15% glycolic acid mask that you use for 3 days on then 3 days off, I however use it for 3 days per week and otehr acids that are more gentle on all other days. It not only lightened my dark spots it refined my skin got rid of 80% of my blackheads and generally brightened things up. I now cant live without it.
It was a long while before I met the lovely Sara at a pamper event at christmas and we hit it off immediately, it was almost like we had met in a past life. Sara is an Actiderm ambassador and is in love with brand too and like me in the beauty business and after numerous conversations I made it very clear I wasn't up for at home sales again but I would host a party, I purchased wraps (for the first of 3 times so far) and more fresh start mask.
Being a beauty professional I am always on the look out for new and better products that really show results for my clients and for months I had been researching and trying out new products that have an anti ageing kick to them, natural is lovely but there is something missing when it comes to anti ageing. Nothing seems to meet the mark for me. Then a brand new joining offer atrted with Actiderm, no targets, no pressure to sell just great incentives and great products. I didn't jump in strait away but the more I thought about it the more I wanted in. If I could use this in my business and maybe earn some extra cash too it was worth thinking about, I'd seen the results for myself I really don't know why I waited so long to get stuck in, Worried about the pressure of being made to do parties again, it's such a tie when you are already working and have a family.
I jumped and hit the ground running!! Purchased my kit, got a website within 24 hours, got £250 sales on my launch party, and reached diamond ambassador status in the first month, I have 3 bookings in the diary that are not Actiderm related and more people wanting pamper evenings. I started the 7 day shred which im not going to lie I am sceptical about but more on that at a later date I guess, I'm only on day 2 so can't say as I've seen a difference yet.
When I sort out all of my new marketing, website, mailing list etc Actiderm will be featuring as part of my home and mobile beauty business and it will be a great asset I'm sure.
So that's my journey so far, with all the new and exciting things that constantly go on within the company I'm excited to be involved with the company. I'm quite sure it will also feature in many more blogs.

Beauty Business Blogging
Hi everyone
When I started my blog (can't even remember how long ago) I had grand designs on blogging 3 times a week and it being reviews and tutorials and life. Guess what!! Life got right in the way of that.
When you are training (still and probably always) running a house, business, looking after kids, husband (sometimes one and the same thing) It starts to get hard to find the time, or does it... I Started off by writing and re writing the same post again and again to get it perfect I genuinely do not have that kind of time, then I realised that actually there were times when thing are going round my brain and the kids are just making guns out of lego to shoot the halway baddies, and what am I doing, sitting with a coffee, reading a mag, watching re runs of made in chelsea (yes thats right and I flipping love it Lucy, Binky and Spencer are my faves) why not use that time to type down the thoughts in my brain.
I like to read random ramblings at times, it makes me feel like I'm not the only one on the planet that feels the way I do. Yes I'm a beauty professional, yes I love beauty and all things beauty and parenting faux pas and what people think in general. In fact one of the first rules of blogging (told by Vivianna does makeup and Lilly Pebbles if I remember correctly) is write about what you love. If you make it a chore it's not what you love anymore and just 1 more thing to do.
A bit of a short one but there's not much to say about it really, unless I decide to do a tutorial in pics or empties or 7 day shred, which all require planning or diary making, I will be a bit off the cuff, write whats in your head because thats what I like and I cant be the only one ..... right !!!!!

The big bad world of being a beauty profesional
Hi everyone
Today I want to address the fact that being a part of the beauty profession is hard. Im not sure if I would have thought about doing something different had I of known but maybe I would of planned how I would handle bookings, clients, website, blogging, the list is endless especially if you own your own mobile business.
How long does it take to be taken seriously in this industry ??
I have 'proper' qualifications and am wracking up the experience pretty quickly. I believe I can offer a different service to other mobile therapists in my area, using all the knowlage I gained whilst training to provide a salon style service at home. It is only as I write this that I realise that it's only through word of mouth friends and family that I have been gaining experience and building business. This has inevitably meant discounts, freebies late cancelations, I am loosing money and relying on these people to create my income and what thanks do I get, complaints, going to different places because of other offers or cheaper service. I am undervaluing myself for fear of rejection.
Do you know what, it stops now!! Yep thats right I'm making a stand. I spend hours reaserching and trying out products, building contacts, going over all my training material to keep refreshed, take new courses all to give the best service and use my knowlage to help others achieve the best skincare, tan, waxing experience etc... I am the professional. This will take time and a business mind which I am slowly getting to grips with.
I guess what I'm trying to say is there will always be someone more experienced that is threatened by your fresh approach, take it on the chin and move on. There will be the 'cheap therapist' trying to undercut you, show your worth and let them loose money.There will always be the person looking for a luxury service at back street prices. It takes time to build a successful business, use all the tools at your disposal to market yourself well, be patient and don't be tempted to compromise what you set out to do in the beginning, above all carry on loving what you do, keep building your knowlage and providing your clients with the best serice you can. If you feel like giving up find a way to move forward, it's out there if you look hard enough.
A bit of a ramble but hey ho thats life.

Fresh indulgence spray tan review
Hi all
Today Im going to continue with my spray tan reviews, I hope this helps anyone who doesn't know where to start or wants to change company.
The tan I am reviewing today is fresh indulgence.
First off I have to say that this is the best company for customer service that I have come across so far. I have had some emergancies that have resulted in me getting products delivered by the next day, nothing is ever too much trouble for them to deal with so for a start they get 10/10 for customer service. The website is very easy to navigate and the process from choosing the right package for you to completing purchase is simple and quick.
Just a little look at the packaging.
Fresh indulgence offer 3 types of spray tan within thier range so they really do cater for all skin tones. The products are 100% paraben, SLS and sulphate free, packed full of superfruits and natural extracts to help leave your skin feeling soft and looking glowing. There are matching accesories and kits available that work out extremly good value.
The revive is thier anti aging range, this has a golden colour to it and leaves the skin feeling soft and supple, the smell is not too strong and only really developes into that tan smell after a few hours but lets be honest everyone who is not new to the tanning game knows that there will be a tan smell with 99% of the tans that are on the market today, it may not be right away but as the tan develops it does have that smell, it's not offensive so can we all just get over having to mention it all the time. The clients that tend to like the revive tan the most are mature clients as it gives a very subtle colour. They return because they say people ask them if they have been away as they look so well I personally prefer this in a tan.
The electric tan is their fast developing tan. This can be left on for 2- 4 hours for a subtle tan (this is how i use it) 4-6 hours for a medium tan, this is for those of your clients that like a 10% and for 6-8 hours for a deep tan. This is perfect for those of your clients that don't like to wait for thier tan to develop or that just do not have time. Lots of companies have developed this technology now but as this is from a brand I know and trust I stick to this one. The only negative is that I have found the fast developing colour does not wear as well as the standard tan. This is just my opinion and it does not stop me from using it if I'm short on time it is just something to bear in mind.
Finally the carabean tan is the most popular amongst my clients. This is the most beautiful berry smelling tan of them all, you can almost smell the goodness!!!(this wears off by the morning) The colour is a gorgeous mocha colour, non orange just as if you have been in the carabean. It wears beautifully and is a great match for the medium at home tanning foam which can be purchased from them and retailed to your clients.
All in all I don't think there is anything bad to say about Fresh Indulgence. I love love love everything about them. Great people to deal with and a fabulous tan what else do you need !? I hope you found this useful.

profesional spray tan advice
Hi all.
When I started researching professional spray tans I really struggled to find genuine reviews so I thought I'd make a point of reviewing all of the ones I have tried so that it may be helpful to others when they are either just starting or wanting to move forward with something new.
First off look for a company that does a good deal with the machine, tent and solution altogether. Do a breif search on the internet to get a gauge of reviews but bare in mind that if the company is fairly new there wont be that much out there.
Next try contacting the company either by email or by phone. I email the majority of the time as I am constantly out and about and can get emails everywhere, if you are lucky they might even call you back, this is a massive bonus as it saves you money and it connects you to the supplier. I know of some people that order their supplies through ebay shops and they always end up getting stuck with no product when they really need it as shipping hasn't been reliable. Personally I don't feel its worth the risk.
If you already have your tanning equipment you can go ahead and order some samples, some companies may charge and some may not it really depends but it wont be a huge charge if any. Again beware here, you do not want to be stuck with a lot of samples that you wont use. My advice is to get a colour to suit your skin tone and one other that you can try on an existing client or family member. If in doubt stick to a 10% as it is pretty much the mid colour, you can go in with a light application for fairer skin tones or go heavier for darker skin tones.
Always do a patch test of corse. You can never tell if any of the ingredients will react with your skin, chances are you will be fine but its always best to do a test first, this also shows you the end colour result. Get someone to help spray you. My husband helps me he is getting good at it now. You can then give a fair mark on ,colour, smell, longevity, how it wears eg. if it goes patchy. When you have given it a good test run between yourself and any willing guinea pigs you can then give a fair recommendation to clients or decide not to go with that particular company.

I found a company based here in the UK called Fresh Indulgence that do fantastic offers on the whole package. I chose the TS50 machine with the helia gun. It is a pro machine and the gun has 3 different spray settings vertical, horizontal and airbrush, with 1-8 spray density. I chose this particular machiene because of the versatility of having the different spray patterns, not all bodies are the same adjustments can be made without compromising on the quality of the tan. In the package I received 3 1ltr bottles of tanning solution. Fresh indulgence have 3 different types of tanning solution catering for every skin tone. Revive is for more sensitive skins with anti ageing ingredients that leave skin feeling so soft and replenished, Caribbean which is a lovely mocha colour that makes you look like you live in the Caribbean, this one smells devine and is packed with skincare ingredients and the electric is a quick developing tan perfect for those on the go. They also sell retail products that can be a profit booster for your company. The customer service from this company is second to none, no call is to small and the delivery is superb I rarely wait more that 24 hours for my order. I cannot recommend them enough.
I do have another brand that I use but not as regularly and I continue to try out new brands all the time as things change in the industry constantly and developments in the formula of different tans are all different. I will be posting reviews of each tan brand over the next few weeks.

When I started researching professional spray tans I really struggled to find genuine reviews so I thought I'd make a point of reviewing all of the ones I have tried so that it may be helpful to others when they are either just starting or wanting to move forward with something new.
First off look for a company that does a good deal with the machine, tent and solution altogether. Do a breif search on the internet to get a gauge of reviews but bare in mind that if the company is fairly new there wont be that much out there.
Next try contacting the company either by email or by phone. I email the majority of the time as I am constantly out and about and can get emails everywhere, if you are lucky they might even call you back, this is a massive bonus as it saves you money and it connects you to the supplier. I know of some people that order their supplies through ebay shops and they always end up getting stuck with no product when they really need it as shipping hasn't been reliable. Personally I don't feel its worth the risk.
